Lawyers are like dentists. Usually you need them when things are desperate and it can cost a lot. We give you a price guarantee and the option of four plans. All of our prices include GST unless otherwise stated.
SOLO – The perfect DIY solution that will save $$. We provide advice and guidance (including looking over documents before you send them to Court) and you do the rest. You’ll look like a professional.
SOLO + US – Just like SOLO but in addition we draft your documents for you (you still submit them in your own name). A bit more dearer than SOLO, a bit more cheaper than CLASSIC. A nice in-betweener.
CLASSIC – The standard service where we do a the necessary legal things for you. This is the perfect plan if you don’t have the time, patience or nerve to do it yourself. We totally understand!
DELUXE – This is basically a lawyer on-tap and it costs! In addition to the fixed scope of work we provide for CLASSIC, we will be available when you want us to do out-of-scope work but you are charged an additional hourly rate. PS: This is how other law firms normally charge people.
WHAT DOES IT COST TO CALL? When you first call to find out if you need a lawyer, and how much it costs, we don’t charge for that bit. It’s free. The bit you pay for happens after we have a ‘retainer’ with you (like a contract). So be comfortable calling our friendly people. Helping people access justice is what we do best.
What a lawyer costs and what you get in return A lot of people tell us they are worried about how much a lawyer costs. That’s because investing in a lawyer costs a lot – and when we commit to spending a lot of money we like to know exactly what it will cost. Because Portia is the evolution of law, we are innovative in our pricing. We aren’t necessarily cheaper than the other irms firms but we do provide a guaranteed fixed-fee for most of our services.
Just like travelling on a plane, you can choose the product based on your budget. The choice is in your hands. We can sit in the background while you do most of the work (Solo), but if you need help with drafting documents we can do that too (Solo + Us), or we can handle the whole case for you within a strict scope of work (Classic). Sometimes we’re asked to go beyond the absolute minimum so you can also choose the Deluxe service, which is charged at an hourly rate.
The prices below all include GST; no hidden trap there! Be aware that we reserve the right to alter our advertised pricing without notice, although if we have committed to a course of action with you and have a retainer in place we will never pump up your bill.
Terms of Payment: Fixed-fee payments are made in advance at the beginning of each stage. Your money is held in our trust account, and deducted when we issue an invoice (once the work has been completed). You can recover your funds from the trust account at any time, less the cost of any services we have provided to date. Prices quoted include GST.

Often people ask why lawyers are so expensive. The only way to truly understand is to go through a legal process yourself. Pretty soon you will realise the value of a lawyer. A number of our clients who choose the Solo or Solo+Us service will change to the Classic service later on. That’s fine – you can bounce between the services at your leisure.
