Like a dentist, you usually need Family Lawyers when things are most desperate and... it can cost a lot. We can give you a three-tier fixed price guarantee as well as charging fees on a traditional hourly rate. Unlike many law firms, our prices include GST unless clearly stated.
OPTION 1 – Behind The Scenes. You got this, and we’re there with you – but nobody knows. This is the perfect DIY solution that will save $$. Our expert litigators provide advice and guidance (including looking over documents before you send them to Court) and you do the rest. You’ll look like a real pro.
OPTION 2 – Ghost Writer. Need more help? In addition to OPTION 1, we’ll also draft your documents for you (you still submit them in your own name). It costs a bit more but you don’t have the responsibility of coming up with the wording or laying things out according to High Court Rules.
OPTION 3 – The standard service where we do the standard legal things for you. This is the perfect plan if you don’t have the time, patience or nerve to do it yourself. We totally understand! We will be available when you want us to do out-of-scope work (you are charged an additional hourly rate for that).
HOURLY RATE – This is how other law firms normally charge people. You may choose this option but you need to tell us at the start. Also, some things (such as preparing for and attending court hearings) are billed at an hourly rate. Remember, these rates include GST.
When you first call to find out if you need a lawyer, and how much it costs, we don’t charge for that bit. It’s free. The bit you pay for happens after we have a ‘retainer’ with you (like a contract). So be comfortable calling our friendly people. Helping people access justice is what we do best.
What a lawyer costs and what you get in return A lot of people tell us they are worried about how much a lawyer costs. That’s because investing in a lawyer costs a lot – and when we commit to spending a lot of money we like to know exactly what it will cost. Because Portia is the evolution of law, we are innovative in our pricing. We aren’t necessarily cheaper than the other firms but we do provide a guaranteed fixed-fee for most of our services.
Choose the product based on your budget: the choice is in your hands. We can sit in the background while you do most of the work, but if you need help with drafting documents we can do that too, or we can handle the whole case for you within a strict scope of work. If you need to move from one option to another in order to get more assistance from us then you can.
Our prices all include GST; no hidden trap there! Be aware that we reserve the right to alter our advertised pricing without notice, although if we have committed to a course of action with you and have a retainer in place we will never pump up your bill.
Terms of Payment: Fixed-fee payments are made in advance at the beginning of each stage. Your money is held in our trust account and deducted when we issue an invoice (once the work has been completed). You can recover your funds from the trust account at any time, less the cost of any services we have provided to date. Prices quoted include GST.
